It's my birthday today, so I thought I'd pick a quote that was relevant both professionally and personally!
On a business level, I have found it really useful to have former colleagues and friends in the industry who have been able to pass on my details and spread the word about my copywriting services to those who need it. I have also discovered how helpful networking is at finding new clients and also keeping me company on those quiet days (every self-employed person will know what I mean!). On a personal level, without getting too gushy, I have been blessed with the company and support of fantastic friends and family, all of whom have helped me throughout my life. That's why today I'm spending my birthday with two of my favourite people - my husband and my daughter! I hope you all have a lovely weekend, and I'll be back in business next week, older and perhaps just a little wiser. x x x

As I have spent a lot of time networking and meeting new clients in the last couple of weeks, I thought this quote was most relevant.
It certainly drives home the importance of word-of-mouth marketing and maintaining a good reputation among your clients, colleagues and business associates. That way, they can tell everyone else how great you are. I can't emphasise enough the value of organic business growth - from excellent-quality content to being referred to by customers or others in the industry. These things do take time to have an effect, but they are much more impactful and long-lasting than quick marketing strategies. To get help improving your website and promotional copy, don't hesitate to contact us today. This week's quote is simply about perseverance and the ruthless determination small businesses and those who work for themselves must have. Working with small companies and being self-employed myself, I strive to provide the best content I can to give us all the greatest chance of success.

While I can transform your site, improve your SEO performance, write enticing content that will get people to share your pages on their social media accounts, attract new visitors, boost repeat users and lengthen the amount of time people stay on your website, thereby increasing the chance of them buying something or hiring you, I am not a designer.
Just like a web designer cannot produce adequate content for a website that will a) be clear, b) sell, c) be grammatically correct and d) be optimised for internet searches, I cannot design banners, logos or icons, edit images or fiddle around with html. We have very different jobs, and you need both of us for a kick-ass website. So, if you've got your designer but need a copywriter to transform your web content, get in touch with us today! Sorry for the cheesy quote this week, but being self-employed, sometimes you need something inspirational to keep you muddling through.
So for all my fellow freelance copywriters, designers, tradesmen or crafty friends, it's important to remember you won't get anywhere if you don't try! Keep having a go, and you'll soon reap rewards. The truth is writing isn't simple by any means, but the selection of words, their arrangement and their meaning should all flow together for smooth and easy reading. If you manage to get your clients to read, understand and be persuaded by your content without having to go over previous paragraphs, you've done your job. And if this all seems too difficult for you (as it is for most people), then make the most of content production companies like us! We can create any web, social media or print literature you need to help your clients read exactly what you want to tell them. A lot of time in my line of work, I have to explain the value of copywriting and how successful it is in pulling in readers, attracting web traffic, boosting SEO performance, increasing social media coverage and creating awareness for brands.
But I can sometimes see the words I say flutter gently over people's heads, as though I am literally talking gobble-di-gook. Whatever people might think about the growing influence of technology, social media, and the internet on businesses (whether you're a modern thinker or stuck in your ways), there's no denying that as writing goes there is no more profitable industry. Except ransom notes, of course. I've never really struggled with writer's block, as I know I'm up against tight deadlines and clients expect me to produce well-written content even when I'm not feeling my most creative.
But what Jodi Picoult said is true - you can always edit bad copy, but you can't edit nothing. The same goes for businesses who want to use my editing services. Don't worry about how rough your draft is or how bad you think it reads - I can transform your copy into effective, result-producing, interesting content as long as I have something to work with. So get scribbling! When it comes to selling online marketing support, clients typically want to know what sales conversions you can offer them before they sign up to your services. One of the hardest things to explain though is the fact you can't give them a figure of how many extra people will visit their website or buy their products. What you can do is increase awareness of their brand - through viral social media campaigns, great blogs, improved SEO, higher website clicks, longer webpage visits and the internet equivalent of 'word of mouth'. In the end, these result in an increase in sales, but clients have to play the long game to see results. It isn't instant. That's why I think this quote sums it up well. In order to achieve success, you have to improve your brand awareness first through social media marketing, a solid website, and blogs that highlight your knowledge and expertise. After all, if people haven't heard of you, they won't buy from you either. Despite not being a big fan of New Year's Eve, we want to wish everyone a very happy New Year!
